Mission Statement and Financial Information
(as of 7/1/2024)
The Michelle Lunn HOPE Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization that was established to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from blood cancer. Our mission is to raise funds to support critically needed blood cancer research, provide scholarships to deserving students and financially help patients and their families affected with a blood cancer diagnosis. Our organization started raising funds in 2007 after the death of our daughter Michelle Lunn (age 22) from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). We received our tax exempt status (#27-0615445) in 2009. Prior to our nonprofit status we raised funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society organization with proceeds benefiting research.
Money is raised for our mission by either our fundraisers or by monetary donations. We put on several fundraisers throughout the year, with our golf outing being our signature event. Other fundraisers include Soup Cook-offs, Raffles, Restaurant Nights, Card Parties, Lemonade Stands and Bowling Benefits.
Each year we have donated majority of our funds to funding research through the Van Andel Institute (VAI) and in the past to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Financials – as of July 2024
- $423,700 Research – LLS and VAI
- $67,000 Scholarships – 26 to date

Total donated to approximately date: $535,200
Each year we have donated majority of our funds to funding research since we started fundraising we have donated $423,700 to cancer research to date.
Over the past years we have seen the need for more local patient help so we started to provide college scholarships and patient financial assistance (some are gas cards for patients to get to and from treatment) other is help with expenses not covered by their insurance. We have to date donated over $44,500 for patient assistance and gas cards.
Since our inception our foundation has donated over $535,200 which was raised from generous donors or our fundraising efforts.
Our foundation is 100% all volunteer (with no paid positions) and very little overhead (accountant & state dues). After expenses we donate 100% of what we make to blood cancer research, patients assistance and scholarships. We also educate people about blood cancers at all our fundraisers.
